U.S. Cellular asks the FCC for permission to buy 700MHz spectrum from Actel

U.S. Cellular has filed a petition with the Federal Communications Commission for permission to buy a swath of 700MHz spectrum licenses from Actel. The seven licenses are in the Lower A block of the 700MHz band, and cover 35 markets in Illinois, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Oregon, Washington, and Wisconsin. "The additional spectrum will allow (U.S. Cellular) to offer innovative services and improve its voice and data offerings to the public," said the company in its filing. U.S. Cellular currently uses both Lower A and B block 700MHz spectrum for its 4G LTE network. The terms of the proposed purchase were not disclosed. Read the full story here.
