eBay (EBAY) announced on Wednesday the launch of its redesigned website alongside a new simpler logo. The new eBay site draws on cues popularized by social photo-sharing site Pinterest. The most noticeable addition is the eBay Feed, a section dedicated to provide improved product discovery features. The Feed will suggest items that a user might be interested in based on pre-selected likes, eBay history or Facebook (FB) interests. Recommended items will populate the Feed’s stream and users can then instantly choose to buy the item or watch it. Users can even follow other user feeds to get more ideas. eBay users who want to get in on the Feed early can turn it on here.The other new feature the online shopping site announced is eBay Now — a collaboration with local businesses that allows users to buy items with same-day delivery. For the time being, eBay Now is only available in San Francisco and New York.
eBay says the new features will slowly roll out to users over the next 100 days.
Separately, Reuters reports that eBay will take on Groupon (GRPN) with its own discounted deals service called Lifestyle Deals. eBay’s deals service is currently being trialled in Los Angeles, the San Francisco Bay area and Washington D.C. eBay says it will expand the service to more cities if there is demand for it.
