Officials stated that on Friday, at the location of a vehicle collision where his Land Rover overturned after hitting another automobile, Tiger Woods exhibited indications of incapacitation.
Woods was apprehended for suspected impaired driving. The Martin County Sheriff’s Department reported that he sustained no harm.
The incident transpired shortly past 2 p.m. ET, taking place in Woods’ residential community. An image captured by WPTV in West Palm Beach, Florida, displayed what was said to be his SUV, tipped onto its driver’s flank.
The representative for Woods at Excel Sports offered no prompt reply to a text message requesting particulars.
Woods, aged 50, had dedicated the preceding months to recuperating from a torn Achilles tendon and a subsequent spinal operation in October. The golf icon, a victor of fifteen major tournaments, participated for the initial time in over twelve months during Tuesday’s ultimate TGL matches, where his Jupiter Links GC team was defeated by the Los Angeles Golf Club.
He was deliberating a comeback to the PGA Tour at the Masters at Augusta National Golf Club, the inaugural major tournament of the year, commencing on April 9th.
His most recent participation on the PGA Tour was in July 2024, when he failed to advance at the Open Championship at Royal Troon Golf Club in Scotland. He most recently completed four rounds in a PGA Tour event at the 2024 Masters.
In February 2021, Woods incurred substantial damage to his legs in a solo vehicle collision in the vicinity of Los Angeles. His SUV overturned repeatedly, leaving him confined within the vehicle. He later underwent an operation to address “compound fractures” to his right lower extremity; a rod was inserted into his tibia, and fasteners and pins were implanted in his pedal and talus regions during an urgent surgical procedure. Woods remained in the hospital for three weeks following the operation.
During the 2021 Hero World Challenge event in the Bahamas, Woods declared, “I am fortunate to be living and to still possess my limb.” He mentioned there was a fifty-fifty chance that a section of his right lower limb might have required amputation.
He underwent a minimum of one additional operation connected to trauma sustained in the collision in April 2023.
