Borussia Dortmund moved closer to securing their spot in the Champions League round of 16, clinching a 2-0 triumph against Atalanta in the initial leg of their play-off fixture.
Following a 15-minute postponement of the match’s start, attributable to Dortmund’s delayed arrival, the home side quickly asserted their dominance on the field. Serhou Guirassy scored the opening goal with a header in the third minute, capitalizing on a superb cross from Julian Ryerson.
Guirassy then transitioned into an assist role just before the interval, setting up Maximilian Beier for an easy tap-in, thereby propelling Dortmund significantly closer to the round of 16.
Although the Bundesliga club couldn’t extend their advantage, they will journey to Bergamo for the return fixture next week holding a substantial lead – however, they are cognizant that the contest is far from settled.
