COLLEGE STATION, Texas — Reveille X, Texas A&M’s border collie mascot, had her proper eye surgically eliminated after veterinarians recognized her with glaucoma, the college’s president mentioned Wednesday.
The collie, also called the “First Girl of Aggieland,” was recognized with glaucoma after experiencing discomfort and cloudiness in her proper eye, president Mark A. Welsh III mentioned in a message on the varsity’s web site. The veterinary workforce eliminated the attention out of an abundance of warning after discovering indicators of irregular tissue, he mentioned.
“I am grateful to report that Miss Rev has come via the surgical procedure efficiently, has been discharged and is resting comfortably,” Welsh mentioned.
Texas A&M’s Reveille mascot dates to 1931, when a gaggle of cadets discovered an injured canine and sneaked her on to campus. The canine barked when buglers performed morning reveille, incomes her the Reveille identify.
Reveille X took over as the newest iteration of the mascot in 2021. A souped-up golf cart referred to as “Rev Drive One” helps transport the collie throughout campus.
Welsh mentioned Reveille will take a short hiatus from engagements as she recovers.
“Based on her veterinary workforce, we will anticipate Miss Rev to be again to having fun with all her favourite actions — cruising on Rev Drive One, attending courses, cheering on the Aggies and conserving our campus squirrels in line — this fall,” he mentioned.
