Sarah Bond, Xbox’s President and Chief Operating Officer, is departing the company. This exit occurs concurrently with that of Phil Spencer, CEO of Microsoft Gaming. The announcement of her departure coincides with Spencer’s, as Asha Sharma assumes the position of EVP and CEO of Gaming, and Matt Booty is elevated to EVP and chief content officer.
Bond commenced her tenure at Microsoft in 2017, initially holding the position of CVP, specializing in gaming alliances and commercial expansion. In 2023, she received a promotion to President of Xbox. At that time, Spencer indicated in an internal memo that she would supervise departments encompassing hardware, user and developer interactions, strategic direction, and corporate forecasting.
Bond is set to depart Microsoft to embark on a “fresh phase,” as Spencer disclosed in an internal memorandum. Spencer remarked, “Sarah proved pivotal during a crucial era for Xbox, molding our platform’s direction, broadening the reach of Game Pass and cloud-based gaming, facilitating the introduction of fresh hardware, and leading us through some of the most notable junctures in our corporate narrative.” He concluded, “I appreciate her collaboration and the influence she has exerted, and I extend my sincerest wishes for her future endeavors.”
