The Ministry of Defence has declared that £14 million in collaborative public and private sector investment has already been pledged this year towards research and advancement efforts for the Atlantic Bastion programme.
Responding in writing to inquiries from James Cartlidge MP, Defence Minister Luke Pollard elucidated that the forthcoming Defence Investment Blueprint will delineate the financial scope for the initiative. He underscored that operational options for Atlantic Bastion, submitted for review, comprise“a blend of uncrewed systems, underwater payloads, means to augment lethality, and improvements to human-operated systems.”
When probed concerning the outlay of pre-concept funding, the number of agreements executed, and procurement orders placed by February 11, 2026, Pollard did not supply specific data. Rather, he asserted that while comprehensive particulars were unable to be disclosed owing to commercial confidentiality, considerable engagement from the industrial sector had transpired.
He reiterated that“a collective investment of £14 million from the Ministry of Defence and industry [has been] already set aside this year for evaluation and progression.”
Additionally, Pollard conveyed that twenty-six consortia from the UK and broader Europe have put forward proposals for developing anti-submarine sensing technology for the programme. Moreover, he noted that a score of firms, ranging from major industrial players to innovation-focused SMEs, have already showcased technological prototypes.
