Micky van de Ven has characterized Tottenham’s present predicament as a “catastrophic outlook,” confessing that the team senses it is enduring “setback after setback” amidst a challenging streak of outcomes.
Spurs were defeated 5-2 in the initial match of their Champions League last-16 encounter on Tuesday, an outcome that signified their fourth consecutive loss under temporary coach Igor Tudor. The away side suffered a calamitous beginning in Madrid, trailing 4-0 within the opening 22 minutes.
Goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky was replaced after merely 17 minutes, subsequent to three rapid goals conceded during a tumultuous initial phase.
The loss prolonged Tottenham’s losing streak to six matches across every contest, and they have now experienced nine winless games.
Commenting on the match, Van de Ven stated that the initial phases represented some of the toughest periods the squad has encountered this season.
“It’s truly an apocalyptic situation. Everything that could possibly falter did indeed falter,” he informed Ziggo Sport.
“For our goalkeeper, it’s dreadful as well, naturally. One wouldn’t desire such an experience for another. For 15 minutes, we simply allowed scores against which you are utterly helpless.”

Tottenham enduring setback after setback
Tudor assumed leadership in February following Thomas Frank’s termination, yet Tottenham have found it hard to alter their performance since this leadership transition.
The club presently occupies 16th place in the Premier League and remains just one point clear of the demotion area, with averting an initial demotion from the top tier since 1977 now their paramount goal for the rest of the season.
Tottenham will resume league play this weekend with a challenging journey to reigning titleholders Liverpool. Following the return fixture of their encounter against Atletico Madrid, they will then welcome relegation rivals Nottingham Forest.
Van de Ven confessed that the ongoing streak has exacted a significant cost on the squad.
“Currently, we’re just experiencing one misfortune after another,” he articulated.
“It’s exceptionally arduous, and furthermore, we have a crucial fixture this weekend in which I will be unable to participate because I am banned.”
“It’s a truly dreadful phase, I assure you. It’s utterly, utterly dreadful.”
The defender will be absent from the journey to Liverpool after being expelled during last week’s 3-1 loss at home to Crystal Palace.
Van de Ven also disclosed that he has withdrawn from digital platforms during this challenging phase.
“I’m no longer engaging with my device. I’m entirely disengaged. Only my kin, and things will settle,” he conveyed.
“It’s harsh, profoundly harsh. I must persevere. It’s an inherent aspect, such is existence, and we shall observe what transpires.”
