Linebacker Dre Greenlaw will rejoin the San Francisco 49ers, having finalized an agreement for a one-year contract, after his departure last year in free agency, a source informed ESPN’s Nick Wagoner.
NFL Network indicates the agreement carries a value of $7.5 million.
Greenlaw completed his initial five campaigns with the 49ers before committing to a three-year, $31.5 million deal with the Denver Broncos the previous year. However, Denver recently waived Greenlaw this week.
At 28 years of age, Greenlaw concluded his sole campaign with the Broncos, across eight contests, amassing 43 stops, one interception, and a forced fumble. Additionally, he registered ten tackles during two postseason matchups.
The Broncos recruited Greenlaw, anticipating he would contribute a robust presence to their defensive unit, which had faced challenges in containing rival teams’ powerful ground plays during the 2024 campaign. Nevertheless, he was absent from the pre-season training regimen and the initial six matches of the campaign due to ailments in his thigh.
He additionally faced a one-game suspension — specifically, for the Broncos’ October 26 victory against the Dallas Cowboys — following a post-match altercation involving official Brad Allen, which occurred after Denver’s triumph over the New York Giants. Back then, the NFL stated that Greenlaw “pursued official Brad Allen and issued verbal threats towards him while the official attempted to exit the playing surface.”
Throughout his professional journey, Greenlaw has accumulated 498 stops, 4.5 quarterback takedowns, and four picks.
