Cam Skattebo, a running back for the New York Giants, issued an apology concerning remarks he made in a recent conversation where he trivialized Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE) and asthma.

During his appearance on the “Bring the Juice” podcast, Skattebo was questioned by the host about the authenticity of CTE.

“No, it’s merely a justification,” Skattebo declared on the recent installment, accompanied by a shake of his head.

The 24-year-old ball-carrier extended his apologies via social media on Saturday.

“I recently took part in a discussion and experienced a momentary lapse in judgment, which led to me making an ill-judged quip about CTE and asthma. It was never my aim to diminish the gravity of head trauma or asthma,” he posted on X. “I genuinely offer my apologies to anyone who was offended by my comments, and I pledge to be more attentive and respectful moving ahead.

In recent times, medical research has cautioned about the risks that the progressive neurological disorder, CTE, poses to athletes. A 2023 investigation by the Boston University CTE Center revealed that over 40 percent of young, secondary school, and university sports participants — predominantly gridiron players — who were subjected to repeated cranial blows from collision sports and passed away prior to reaching thirty years of age, had received a CTE diagnosis.

This investigation was founded upon an analysis of 152 donated cerebral organs.

The widely publicized demises of prominent athletes, including luminaries like Junior Seau, Conrad Dobler, and Dave Duerson, have featured CTE as part of their diagnoses.

Skattebo additionally discussed respiratory issues during his segment on the podcast. Upon being offered the assertion that asthma also serves as “a justification,” Skattebo concurred.

“No, that’s a sound observation,” he uttered. “Indeed, asthma is likewise a pretense.”

“You’re simply lacking resilience,” Skattebo subsequently appended.

Respiratory issues impacted approximately 262 million individuals during the year 2019, as reported by the World Health Organization.

His statements struck one as a feeble attempt at jest, as per his mother, Becky Skattebo.

She posted on X: “Were individuals aware of how frequently Cam was required to “fetch his mother’s inhaler,” they would grasp the irony…one can never please every individual, and one will never utter exclusively appropriate statements, so people are destined to distort something eventually, in a manner unintended.”
