The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Food Safety and Inspection Service has announced that a national product retrieval has broadened, now encompassing roughly 10 million pounds of frozen vegetable fried rice distributed through Trader Joe’s outlets in many states.
Ajinomoto Foods North America Inc. declared a withdrawal for 9,885,240 pounds of Trader Joe’s Vegetable Fried Rice, subsequent to the discovery of minute glass fragments within these frozen food items.
These glass fragments measured between one to three centimeters in length and two to four millimeters in width.

The withdrawn items were distributed in retail outlets throughout 43 jurisdictions; the seven untouched states include Hawaii, Maine, New Mexico, South Dakota, Vermont, West Virginia, and Iowa.
The implicated goods displayed optimal consumption dates spanning from February 28, 2026, to November 19, 2026.
The current alert represented an extension of a withdrawal first released last month and further extended earlier this month. The entire withdrawal initiative impacted approximately 37 million pounds of prepared food products, influencing over twelve brands besides Trader Joe’s, including Kroger and Tai Pei.

The implicated products comprise Trader Joe’s Chicken Shu Mai and Trader Joe’s Chicken Fried Rice, containing stir-fried rice, various vegetables, spiced dark chicken flesh, and eggs.
In its most recent announcement, the USDA categorized the warning as a Class II retrieval, signifying that “consumption of or contact with a non-compliant item could lead to transient or medically curable unfavorable health effects, or when the likelihood of severe unfavorable health effects is distant.”
