Saleh Ali Al-Turki, Mayor of Jeddah and Chairman of Jeddah Transport Co. (JTC), launched today, May 7, the new phase of Jeddah Public Transportation Program (JPTP).

According to SPA, the new phase includes the operation of 91 buses, of which 88 use eco-friendly Euro-5 diesel. These buses have 41 seats and can accommodate 50 standing passengers. Additionally, there are 3 electric buses with 34 seats and space for 38 standing passengers. All buses are equipped with facilities for individuals with disabilities.

The buses also feature several amenities, including USB ports for charging mobile devices, onboard screens displaying routes, 14 internal and external surveillance cameras, and a GPS tracking system connected to an operational control panel to enhance efficiency and safety.

The project saw expansions as the number of routes increasing to 14, now covering wider areas within the city. Additionally, the number of stops has grown to 80, and 117 air-conditioned stations have been established—46 are already operational, while 71 new stations are currently under procurement.

Engineer Yousef Al-Sayegh announced the launch of the “Jeddah Buses” app on both the Apple and Google Play stores, offering a comprehensive digital experience that includes real-time bus tracking and electronic ticket purchasing, with flexible payment options available via the app or directly on the buses using Mada cards.

The CEO of JTC confirmed that the unified ticket price remains at SAR 3.45, with subscription packages also available: a daily package for SAR 10 allowing 5 rides per day, a weekly package for SAR 60 covering 35 rides, and a monthly package for SAR 240 covering 175 rides. Discounted rates are also offered for eligible groups.

Mwasalat Jeddah expects the total number of passengers during this phase to exceed 27 million over three years, with an average of 9 million passengers annually.

It is worth noting that JTC —the executive arm of the Jeddah Municipality for public transport projects—announced the launch of the new phase of public bus service operations starting April 1, 2025. This is in partnership with Saudi Public Transport Co. (SAPTCO) under a renewed three-year operational contract, continuing the previous phase of the alternative public bus service project in the governorate.
