Amorim makes January transfer admission

United are dealing with several injury issues ahead of the game with Leeds.

There have been no conversations around any changes to the Manchester United squad during the January transfer window, according to manager Ruben Amorim.

United have improved on their dismal performance of last season and sit just three points outside the top four in the Premier League.

However, they endured one of their worst results of the season last time out as they ended 2025 with a 1-1 draw against winless Wolves, who had chances to claim all three points at Old Trafford.

The nature of that display ramped up the pressure on Amorim, who is dealing with injuries to Bruno Fernandes, Harry Maguire, Matthijs de Ligt, Mason Mount and Kobbie Mainoo. Bryan Mbeumo, Amad Diallo and Noussair Mazraoui are all at the Africa Cup of Nations.

Despite those issues, United seemingly have no plans to reinforce their squad in January.

Speaking ahead of Sunday’s clash with Leeds United, Amorim said: “The transfer window is not going to change, we have no conversation to have any change in the squad.

“There is a process, there is an idea – that is going to continue. We are near places of the Champions League but we are also near eight teams behind us, so let’s focus on the next game.”

Asked if any player at the club had asked to leave, Amorim replied: “No, none of them.

“I don’t expect them to come to me to ask.”

The trip to Elland Road sees United face a Leeds team in excellent form. Daniel Farke’s men are unbeaten in their last six games, a run that should give them great confidence ahead of the renewal of their rivalry with Amorim’s side.

“I heard that it’s a big derby, great environment, big rivalry, but every game in the Premier League is so tough,” Amorim said of the visit to West Yorkshire.

“It’s one more game, I know it means a lot to the fans but we need to go there and try to win.”

“I never experienced this one. Different environment, different culture, but the noise is going to be big. It’s hard to compare different cultures, different derbies, histories.

“When you play for Manchester United you need to be ready for everything. You guys have the best league in the world, every game you see there is a lot of draws, you never understand what is going to happen at the end of that week.”

United have won just one of their last four games, while the draw with Wolves marked another setback at home for a team that has also dropped points in front of their own fans against Everton, West Ham and Bournemouth, the latter each earning draws following the Toffees’ victory at Old Trafford.

“I think we are playing better, when we have the full squad we are clearly attacking better, we’re not good enough in the details,” Amorim added.

“We always want more and we should have more points in the table.”
