Your guide to what Trump’s second term means for Washington, business and the world

Donald Trump said the US would stop its bombing campaign against Houthi targets in Yemen in response to assurances from the rebel group that it would halt its attacks on ships in the region.

“The Houthis have announced . . . or they’ve announced to us, at least, that they don’t want to fight any more,” the US president said. “They just don’t want to fight, and we will honour that, and we will stop the bombings, and they have capitulated.”

Trump was speaking in the Oval Office as he met with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney at the White House on Tuesday. Trump is expected to travel to the Middle East next, with stops in Saudi Arabia, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates.
