New York Mets first baseman Pete Alonso, who has appeared in a franchise-record 353 consecutive video games, was held out of the beginning lineup Sunday towards the visiting Cincinnati Reds as a result of a right-hand contusion.
Mets supervisor Carlos Mendoza mentioned Alonso acquired X-rays on Saturday after feeling discomfort within the “base of the thumb space.”
“He felt it the primary couple of at-bats [Saturday],” Mendoza mentioned Sunday. “He is day-to-day. He is getting therapy, and he says he is rather a lot higher this morning.”
Alonso has performed in all 99 video games this season, and his consecutive video games streak dates to June 18, 2023. The five-time All-Star is mired in a 2-for-30 stretch with eight strikeouts over his previous seven video games.
Alonso, 30, is batting .276 with 21 homers and 77 RBIs this season. Mark Vientos is beginning at first base within the collection finale towards the Reds.
A two-time Dwelling Run Derby winner, Alonso is hitting .252 with 247 homers and 663 RBIs in 945 profession video games with the Mets.
