Crystal Palace have agreed a £35 million deal in principle with Tottenham to sign Brennan Johnson, although the move remains subject to the player making a final decision on his future.
The 24-year-old Wales winger, who is attracting interest from elsewhere ahead of the opening of the transfer window throughout January, would add further attacking depth to Oliver Glasner’s squad as Palace balance their domestic campaign with playing in the Conference League.
The deal would also rank as the fourth-largest sale in Tottenham’s history, behind only Gareth Bale, Harry Kane and Kyle Walker, despite Johnson no longer being viewed as part of manager Thomas Frank’s long-term plans.
Brennan Johnson: Palace agree transfer with Spurs
Palace’s interest in Johnson has been well established, with The Athletic reporting on December 26 that he was the club’s primary target in the January market.
Johnson ended 2024/25 as Tottenham’s leading scorer with 18 goals in 51 appearances across all competitions, but his role has diminished since Frank arrived in June, starting six of Spurs’ 17 league games this season.
Tottenham’s attacking options have increased, particularly following the arrival of Mohammed Kudus, who has largely displaced Johnson on the right wing.
Dejan Kulusevski has also been used mainly in that position, although the Sweden international has not featured since May after undergoing knee surgery.
Johnson progressed through Nottingham Forest’s academy and top-scored as the club won promotion to the Premier League in 2021/22.
Brennan Johnson stats
The former England youth international joined Spurs in September 2023 in a deal worth £47.5m and registered five goals and 11 assists in his debut season under Ange Postecoglou, helping the club qualify for the Europa League.
During a standout 2024/25 campaign, Johnson’s five Europa League goals included the winner in the final as Tottenham beat Manchester United to lift their first trophy in 17 years.
He has made 22 appearances in all competitions this season, operating on both flanks and scoring four goals.
Bournemouth are one of the clubs hoping to sign Johnson if he does not join Palace, according to Sky Sports News.
