Angola and Egypt played out a goalless draw in a tightly contested Africa Cup of Nations group-stage encounter, with both sides creating chances but lacking the finishing touch to break the deadlock.

The opening period was physical and fragmented, with frequent fouls disrupting the rhythm. Egypt enjoyed more sustained spells of possession, while Angola threatened sporadically on the break and from set pieces.

Egypt came close through Mostafa Mohamed, who fired wide from a tight angle before heading over from close range following a corner.

Angola responded with efforts of their own, most notably when Mabululu tested Mostafa Shobeir twice from inside the box, forcing solid saves from the Egypt goalkeeper.

Neither side managed to find a clear breakthrough before the interval.

Second-half pressure without reward

Angola emerged with greater intent after the restart and went closest to scoring when Fredy struck the post from a direct free kick shortly after half-time.

Egypt responded by increasing their tempo, with Zizo and Ibrahim Adel both forcing saves from Hugo Marques.

As the game wore on, chances began to open up at both ends. Manuel Benson was a constant threat for Angola, firing narrowly wide on several occasions, while M’Bala Nzola also went close on the counter. Egypt continued to probe through wide areas but struggled to convert promising positions into clear chances.

The closing stages saw Angola push for a winner, with Benson and Show both attempting long-range efforts in stoppage time, but neither could find the target. Egypt remained compact defensively and saw out the pressure to secure a point.

The draw does not do much to the standings. Egypt are already through to the knockouts after winning their two opening games, while Angola finish in third, and will hope for a miracle to send them through.
