Sean Dyche endured a miserable return to Everton this afternoon as Thierno Barry helped the Toffees to a 3-0 win over Nottingham Forest.

Dyche was sacked by Everton in January and has made a decent start to life at Forest but they were well beaten at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

The visitors fell behind early on when Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall’s cross deflected off Nikola Milenkovic and past Matz Sels.

It was 2-0 in first-half stoppage time when Barry got his first Everton goal on his 17th appearance following a big-money move from Villarreal over the summer. Iliman Ndiaye was the architect with a powerful run before slipping in Barry and he finished neatly.

Dewsbury-Hall, who had already hit the post, added a third with a powerful shot into the bottom corner.

The win moves Everton up to fifth while Forest remain three points outside the relegation zone.

Barry told BBC MOTD: “Today I feel very happy, I can’t stop smiling because I scored.

“Before today, I knew I could score – in the last home game I scored, but VAR ruled it out. I went down before the goal, but I knew I had to stay on the pitch and 10 minutes later I scored.”

Frank enjoys some respite as Spurs see off former club Brentford

Spurs moved up to eighth after beating Brentford 2-0.

Thomas Frank enjoyed the meeting with his former club with goals from Richarlison and Xavi Simons proving the difference.

“After a few tough games, it is so nice to see,” said Frank. “It was a much more complete performance. I liked the dynamics and the pace we played with going forward. I liked our aggression in the duels. Also on the flip side, we defended well which you need to do. It was the complete performance we were searching for.”

Newcastle beat 10-man Burnley

Newcastle were also home winners, beating struggling Burnley 2-1.

Bruno Guimaraes quelled a bright start from the visitors by netting direct from a corner shortly after the half-hour mark.

And Burnley’s task was made harder when Lucas Pires was sent-off after bringing down Anthony Elanga.

Newcastle capitalised on their man advantage when Lesley Ugochukwu was adjudged to have handled in the area in first-half stoppage time and Anthony Gordon converted from the spot.

Burnley pulled one back through Zian Flemming’s late penalty but they could not find an equaliser with Newcastle also able to celebrate the debut of striker Yoane Wissa, who has been out with a knee injury.

Today’s Premier League results:

Aston Villa 2-1 Arsenal

Bournemouth 0-0 Chelsea

Everton 3-0 Nottingham Forest

Man City 3-0 Sunderland

Newcastle 2-1 Burnley
