Arizona Diamondbacks pitcher Corbin Burnes will endure Tommy John surgical procedure, supervisor Torey Lovullo introduced Friday.
Burnes left his begin Sunday towards the Washington Nationals after calling out for the coach within the fifth inning. The Diamondbacks then positioned the right-hander on the 15-day injured record on Tuesday whereas searching for a second opinion on the elbow.
In his first season in Arizona, Burnes is 3-2 with a 2.66 ERA in 11 begins. The 30-year-old spent the primary six years of his profession with the Milwaukee Brewers and was named the NL Cy Younger Award winner in 2021.
He was traded to the Baltimore Orioles forward of final season, was named an All-Star for the fourth consecutive season and completed fifth in AL Cy Younger voting.
The Diamondbacks signed the free agent ace to a six-year, $210 million contract this previous offseason.
