Manchester United’s centre-back, Harry Maguire, has been sanctioned by the Football Association following his dismissal during the match against Bournemouth.
The player faced allegations of “unsuitable behaviour” after purportedly uttering offensive or disparaging remarks directed at fourth official Matt Donohue subsequent to his expulsion.
Maguire was sent off during the second half by match official Stuart Attwell due to a foul that resulted in a penalty, which Junior Kroupi successfully converted to ensure a 2-2 stalemate for the Cherries.
In a formal announcement, the FA confirmed: “Disciplinary proceedings have been initiated against Harry Maguire after his expulsion in the 78th minute of Man Utd’s Premier League encounter versus Bournemouth on March 20.
“It is contended that the defender behaved inappropriately and/or used abusive and/or insulting words and/or displayed such conduct towards the fourth official following his red card. Harry Maguire is afforded until April 2 to submit his defence.”
The England national team player will serve a single-game ban resulting from his dismissal, thereby excluding him from United’s forthcoming fixture against Leeds.
Nonetheless, a possible strengthening of the defence appears imminent, as Lisandro Martinez nears his comeback from an ailment.
