On Monday, it was revealed that the Chicago Sky sent two-time WNBA All-Star Angel Reese to the Atlanta Dream in exchange for a 2027 first-round selection and a 2028 first-round selection.
Additionally, the Dream will obtain second-round exchange privileges for 2028.
During the previous season, Reese topped the WNBA in rebounds per game (12.6) for the second successive year. Furthermore, she was first in the league for double-doubles (23), simultaneously spearheading the Sky in both scoring (14.7 points) and assists (3.7).
In a press statement, Sky general manager Jeff Pagliocca remarked, “This transaction is intended to foster team equilibrium and provides a significant chance for every involved party. Angel has accomplished numerous record-setting feats in her initial two years in the WNBA and has served as a formidable presence for the Sky. We are grateful for her many significant inputs to this league and this sport, and we anticipate she will maintain a profound influence on the court and beyond.
“We extend our best wishes to Angel for success in her subsequent phase.”
The connection between Reese and the organization, which selected her seventh overall in 2024, grew tense last season. This occurred after she openly voiced apprehension regarding the team’s point guard situation and implied that the club needed to acquire top-tier athletes this offseason, otherwise she might contemplate departing. Subsequently, she expressed regret to her teammates for those remarks.
In Reese’s absence last season, the Sky recorded a 1-13 record (10-34 overall) and failed to qualify for the playoffs for the second consecutive season.
Reese’s initial professional agreement is valid until 2026, including a club’s discretion for 2027.
Chicago presently holds five first-round selections across the forthcoming three seasons.
