SAN ANTONIO — The San Antonio Spurs have unveiled a banner celebrating Gregg Popovich. Fittingly, they did it quietly.
The Spurs had been enjoying their dwelling opener on Sunday when followers noticed the brand new banner for the primary time. There was no public ceremony when the banner was hoisted, a transparent indicator that Popovich didn’t need any lavish celebration.
The banner hangs alongside David Robinson’s No. 50, Sean Elliott’s No. 32, Avery Johnson’s No. 6, Bruce Bowen’s No. 12, Tim Duncan’s No. 21, Manu Ginobili’s No. 20 and Tony Parker’s No. 9.

The brand new banner merely reads “Pop 1,390.” The 1,390 represents Popovich’s NBA-record regular-season win complete with the group.
It’s a barely completely different design than the others, that are formed as jerseys. Popovich’s banner has 5 stars alongside the highest — the Spurs gained 5 NBA championships with him as coach — and the group emblem.
Popovich stepped down as coach of the Spurs in Could, ending a three-decade run that noticed him turn into the league’s all-time wins chief and earn induction into the Basketball Corridor of Fame. He had a stroke on the group’s enviornment on Nov. 2, 2024, and didn’t coach once more, although he stays with the group as president.
