US Military fields BAE Techniques’ new safe radio for helicopters

The US Military has begun fielding BAE Techniques’ AN/ARC-231A Multi-mode Aviation Radio Set, or MARS, throughout choose rotary-wing plane, the corporate said.

The system, say BAE, gives quick, safe communications to help tactical missions the place dependable knowledge trade is important.

BAE Techniques described the MARS platform as the latest era of its airborne communication suite, that includes multi-band, multi-mission functionality and modernized Sort 1 encryption. It serves as a direct alternative for the ARC-231 radio at the moment used throughout US and allied fleets.

Brian Shadiack, director of Adaptive Communications and Sensing at BAE Techniques, stated “The fielding of the AN/ARC-231A MARS system marks a big milestone to equip warfighters with superior communications capabilities and a rise in mission readiness to reply extra successfully to rising threats.” He added that the radio’s software-defined design permits the Military to improve waveforms and deploy new capabilities via software-only updates.

The MARS system contains the RT-1987 radio, amplifiers, and mounting {hardware}, designed for versatile set up and interoperability in joint and allied operations. Its programmability permits adaptation for particular missions and evolving operational necessities, whereas sustaining compatibility with US and NATO communication requirements.

In line with the corporate, greater than 100,000 of its radios are in service worldwide. The MARS models are produced at BAE Techniques’ facility in Fort Wayne, Indiana, with engineering help supplied from Largo, Florida.
