Wales rallied in the second period to secure a 1-1 tie with Northern Ireland in an exhibition match, following both teams’ World Cup qualification play-off losses last week.

A fixture where only honor was on the line for these two nations, subsequent to their eliminations against Bosnia and Italy last week, predictably began without much vigor. However, it was the visiting side celebrating early through Donley’s initial goal.

The Spurs striker, currently on temporary assignment at Oxford, responded most swiftly after witnessing his header strike the post, subsequently slotting in the follow-up shot.

Shortly thereafter, Donley squandered a golden opportunity to extend the lead to 2-0, as his close-range attempt was parried by Karl Darlow.

Wales equalized at the start of the second period when David Brooks’ shot was redirected into the path of Sorba Thomas, who then found the net.

The home team increased their intensity subsequently, with Harry Wilson orchestrating the play and almost setting up Neco Williams for a headed goal, only for Pierce Charles to make a fine stop.

It was then Darlow’s turn for another impressive save soon afterwards, foiling Eoin Tolan’s header attempt.

Wilson then had his first sight of goal as the game entered its final quarter, but his shot on the bounce was intercepted on the edge of the penalty area.

Despite the match’s somewhat unwanted nature for both sides, there was considerable determination to win. The most significant opportunity in the final moments fell to Callum Marshall, who inexplicably directed his header too high despite being unmarked, ensuring the game resulted in a tied score.
