After Nikola Jokic and Jamal Murray collaborated to vanquish the Dallas Mavericks, Denver Nuggets coach David Adelman proclaimed them “the premier duo in the NBA.”
Murray notched a season-best 53 points, while Jokic supplied 23 points, 21 boards, and 19 dimes, propelling the Nuggets to a 142-135 victory over the Mavs. This marked a historical first: never before had a team featured one player scoring 50 points alongside another who delivered a minimum of 15 points, 15 rebounds, and 15 assists in the identical contest.
“Fifty-three points from your point guard and a 23-21-19 stat line from your center. Simply phenomenal figures from the premier duo in the NBA,” Adelman stated. He added that, in a basketball context, their sustained collaboration, playoff appearances, and numerous challenges faced render them the very essence of the franchise’s narrative, making their journey exceptionally unique.
This marked Denver’s fourth consecutive triumph, elevating their seasonal standing to 46-28, a performance sufficient to secure fourth position in the Western Conference.
Nevertheless, it was Murray and Jokic who truly commanded the spotlight.
Jokic commented, “Our initial beginnings, the trajectory we followed, moving from obscurity to prominence and achieving a championship – all while continuing to develop and excel.”
Murray further stated: “I believe our optimal synergy emerges precisely when we aren’t both individually excelling simultaneously. While the Nuggets may be soaring, the same cannot be asserted for Dallas, who incurred their fifth consecutive loss, plummeting their overall record to 23-50. This marks only their second season experiencing 50 defeats within the past 28 years.
Coach Jason Kidd remarked, “I believe that while the record doesn’t always reflect reality, ultimately, it does. Such is our official standing. The purpose of maintaining statistics is to document this many triumphs and this many setbacks.” He continued, “For us, we’ve participated in numerous tight contests, but regrettably, we simply haven’t secured victory in them. Therefore, this presents an opportunity for us to gain insight, and hopefully, we can enhance our performance during our subsequent match, scheduled for Friday in Portland.”
