Google revealed on Thursday that its AI-driven “Live Translate” functionality, a Google Translate attribute enabling real-time auditory translations through your headphones, is now extending its reach to iOS and additional nations.
Thanks to this broader availability, the capability can now be accessed on both iOS and Android platforms across the U.S., India, Mexico, Germany, Spain, France, Nigeria, Italy, the United Kingdom, Japan, Bangladesh, and Thailand. Prior to this, its accessibility was limited to Android devices solely within the U.S., India, and Mexico.
This functionality fundamentally transforms any set of headphones into a device for instantaneous, unidirectional translation. The real-time translation experience via headphones, powered by Google’s Gemini AI, preserves the distinct tone, stress, and rhythm of each speaker’s voice. This, according to Google, simplifies the process of tracking discussions and identifying speakers.
The technology behemoth proposes that individuals might utilize this feature for purposes such as understanding mealtime dialogues with family members speaking a different tongue, or comprehending train announcements during journeys abroad.
This functionality operates seamlessly with any type of headphones and accommodates over 70 distinct languages.
To utilize it, users simply need to launch the Google Translate application, select the “Live Translate” alternative, and subsequently link their headphones.
The rollout of Live Translate coincides with Google’s announcement of its plan to broaden the scope of its AI-driven conversational search capability, Search Live. This feature is now being extended worldwide to encompass all languages and regions where AI Mode is accessible. As a result of this wider deployment, residents in over 200 nations and regions will gain entry to this particular function, which was priorly confined to the U.S. and India.
