Payne Capital Management President Ryan Payne elucidates the resilience of technology sector profits notwithstanding a minor decline lately, and how recruitment in artificial intelligence might counteract an influx of baby boomers entering retirement on ‘Mornings with Maria’.

Amazon’s most recent round of job cuts has reportedly impacted New York, resulting in hundreds of staff members being let go.

Approximately 135 white-collar workers at Amazon’s 1440 Broadway office in Manhattan faced dismissal in January, the New York Post stated, referencing a document presented to the New York State Department of Labor.

Over 100 additional staff members situated in New York also experienced termination, the publication indicated, quoting an informant who mentioned further declarations are anticipated to emerge in state archives over the next few weeks.

These cutbacks form a component of Amazon’s extensive reorganization initiative, as reported by the New York Post.

In the previous month, Amazon revealed intentions to cut approximately 16,000 positions throughout its operations as an element of a corporate transformation designed to “streamline hierarchies, foster greater accountability, and eradicate red tape,” concurrently maintaining significant investment in fields like artificial intelligence.

“Some may wonder if this signifies the commencement of a recurring pattern – where widespread workforce reductions are declared biannually or quarterly. That is not our strategy,” stated HR executive Beth Galetti then.

Earlier, the corporation also eliminated around 14,000 white-collar roles in October amidst a separate restructuring. Cumulatively, these latest layoffs elevate Amazon’s total workforce reductions to nearly 30,000.

Although this number constitutes a minor portion of Amazon’s 1.58 million worldwide staff — most of whom are employed in storage and distribution facilities — it nonetheless accounts for almost 10% of the enterprise’s office-based personnel, as per Reuters.

This contraction signifies the most substantial staff reduction in Amazon’s three-decade existence, exceeding the 27,000 positions cut from late 2022 to early 2023, Reuters indicated.

“Fewer individuals will be required for some tasks currently performed,” Jassy remarked last June. “… Over the coming years, we anticipate that [artificial intelligence] will diminish our overall corporate personnel count as we achieve productivity enhancements from widespread AI implementation throughout the firm.”

Amazon offered no immediate reply to FOX Business’ inquiry for a statement.
