Costco Goes Solo: First Standalone Gas Station Pumps Up Mission Viejo

Costco is poised to launch its initial independent fuel station this summer in Mission Viejo, California. This move signifies a significant broadening of its petroleum business, with a subsequent location in Hawaii anticipated to commence operations next year.

Situated approximately 50 miles away from Los Angeles, the California facility is projected to begin service in late June,as reportedby local news source KABC, referencing municipal authorities. This facility is set to be the chain’s most expansive fuel station, offering 40 dispensers.

Another facility is under development for Honolulu, Hawaii, within the Kapālama Kai district,C-store Dive indicates, quoting a representative from Kamehameha Schools, a private educational organization holding ownership of the endeavor.

This initiative represents a significant stride for the bargain retail behemoth, whose fuel stations at current warehouse sites have historically been beset by extended queuing periods, dense vehicular movement, and congested parking areas.

The new facility will be situated adjacent to a Krispy Kreme outlet, a Dairy Queen Chill & Grill, and a Jack in the Box.

The undertaking is designed with 20 petrol pumps, totaling 40 refueling points, according to 2025 city planning documents.

Encompassing an area of 17,234 square feet, the “service station canopy” will also accommodate an auxiliary office and staff lounge structure for personnel, the records indicated.

Operating seven days a week from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m., the fresh fuel station will cater solely to individuals holding Costco memberships, C-store Dive conveyed.
