The Labour party has suggested it is poised to forfeit the Gorton and Denton special election to the progressive Green Party, inflicting a significant setback upon UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
“We believe the Greens have triumphed,” stated a high-ranking Labour Member of Parliament.
The party has been engrossed in an intense three-way contest against two popular movements, the progressive Greens and conservative Reform, within what had served as a Labour bastion for almost a hundred years.
Electors cast their ballots on Thursday.
As vote tabulation remained unfinished, during the nascent hours of Friday, deputy leader Lucy Powell remarked that constituents had aimed to exclude Reform UK.
“What becomes truly apparent is that a substantial majority within this electoral district did not cast their vote for Reform, and on election day, the Greens successfully asserted they were in the prime position to achieve that objective,” she conveyed to Sky News.
She failed to specify if she thought Labour had secured the second or third position in the contest.
Nevertheless, Labour officials anticipate their party is headed for a “notable” loss to the Green Party, as per another Member of Parliament, following a canvass wherein the Greens endeavored to portray themselves as the preferred option to “halt Reform.”
The outcomes are projected to be announced between 3:00 AM and 4:00 AM.
