As per the indictment revealed on Thursday, the accused individuals secured positions at technology firms specializing in portable computing units.
As stated by legal counsel, the Ghandali sisters, Samaneh and Soroor, were employed by Google prior to transitioning to another technology firm referred to as “Company 3,” with its main office in Santa Clara, California. Khosravi, the spouse of Samaneh Ghandali, held a position at a distinct corporation, identified in the indictment as Company 2, with its main office in San Diego.
The DOJ contends that the defendants leveraged their roles to obtain privileged and sensitive data within the framework of a plot to misappropriate proprietary knowledge.
The accused “illicitly transferred privileged and delicate records, encompassing proprietary data concerning CPU protection, encryption, and various other technological advancements, from Google and other tech corporations to unapproved external and private destinations, including professional equipment linked to their respective workplaces, and to Iran.”
“According to the claims, the defendants abused their roles to purloin proprietary confidential data from their employers,” United States Attorney Craig H. The indictment contends that Samaneh Ghandali, while employed by Google, moved numerous documents, among them proprietary corporate information, to an external communication channel. Soroor Ghandali is likewise charged with moving Google’s proprietary information files during her tenure with the corporation.
Prosecutors assert the accused sought to hide their activities by presenting “deceptive, attested statements” to affected tech corporations concerning their behavior and the purloined proprietary information, eradicating illicitly transferred files and other data from digital apparatuses, and obscuring the means of unauthorized data removal to evade discovery by the affected tech corporations.
