Following military actions by the US and Israel against Iran, the Defence Secretary has affirmed that swift British aircraft are engaged in regional defensive operations within the Middle East.
John Healey articulated that his primary objective was the well-being of UK Armed Forces personnel, also mentioning that protective measures at British installations within the region are at their most stringent.
He declared, “My paramount concern is the well-being of our UK military personnel.” He further emphasized, “Protective measures for British facilities and staff are at their most stringent.”
He went on to convey that “Today, British aircraft are deployed within the Middle East, engaged in regional defensive endeavors designed to shield our populace, our strategic concerns, and our partners.”
Healey, in a later declaration, clarified that the UK “had no part in these military actions,” alluding to the reported operations by Israel and the US against Iran. Yet, he characterized the Iranian administration as “repugnant” and reaffirmed the government’s enduring stance that Iran must not be permitted to develop an atomic weapon.
These statements were made subsequent to reports of explosions emerging in Tehran and American officials confirming that US military operations targeting Iran had commenced. Furthermore, Israel has also verified its involvement in carrying out attacks.
The Ministry of Defence has refrained from providing specific details concerning the models of aircraft deployed or the exact bases from which they are operating, a decision that is entirely comprehensible.
