Drew Rosenhaus, the agent for experienced ball-carrier Aaron Jones Sr., announced on Wednesday to ESPN’s Adam Schefter that Jones had renegotiated his contract with the Minnesota Vikings and would not be cut.
This updated single-season agreement is valued at $5.6 million, with $5 million of that sum assured.
Earlier this month, insiders revealed to ESPN that the Vikings had notified Jones of his impending release unless a trade could be arranged. For the year 2026, he was projected to receive $10 million, carrying a salary cap hit of $14.8 million.
Functioning primarily as the team’s secondary ball carrier, succeeding Jordan Mason, Jones remained a cherished and esteemed presence within the Vikings’ locker room.
In 2025, he was hampered by ailments, with Jones participating in merely 12 games and accumulating just 548 ground yardage and 747 combined offensive yardage — his weakest output since his inaugural year in 2017.
At 31 years old, Jones has completed his recent pair of years with the Vikings, following his initial seven professional football campaigns spent with the Green Bay Packers. During the 2024 campaign, he achieved personal bests in receptions and carries (306), rushes (255), plays on offense (700), and ground gains (1,138),
Jones holds the third position on the Packers’ historical list for ground yardage, tallying 5,940, and his 45 scores on the ground place him fourth in the team’s annals.
