Erling Haaland: Why Our Love Affair Is Over

We never thought we'd say it but it's time to dump Erling Haaland

For FPL Gameweek 30, it’s crucial to plan proactively. As Blank Gameweek 31 approaches rapidly and European competitions resume, it’s ill-advised to hold onto prominent players facing uncertain game time or challenging matchups. Several sought-after players have fulfilled their purpose, while others are becoming liabilities; thus, this is the opportune time to divest them while their market worth remains elevated. Here are five individuals I would gladly transfer out this week.

Erling Haaland (14.6m)

One rarely *desires* to offload Haaland, yet circumstances are aligning more favorably for such a move than ever before. While a home match against West Ham appears promising theoretically, it precedes Manchester City’s Champions League clash with Real Madrid, suggesting that limited play time or even a substitution could genuinely occur. The critical issue then arises: a blank fixture in Gameweek 31. Given a top-tier player of this cost, the blend of potential squad rotation and a definite absence in Gameweek 31 is harsh. Leveraging his sale to acquire Mohamed Salah for fixtures against Spurs and Brighton, concurrently releasing funds to fortify other squad areas, offers a robust two‑week strategic advantage. This approach is bold, though it is underpinned by sound reasoning. Do you possess the courage?

James Tarkowski (5.7m)

Tarkowski recently delivered an impressive 15-point return, and his managers are certainly entitled to revel in it – however, this is precisely the moment to pose the difficult query: what lies ahead? Everton is now set to contend with Arsenal away, then Chelsea, a pair of matches where securing clean sheets seems improbable and defensive bonus points are highly uncertain. Holding 11% ownership, this presents an occasion to disengage before the broader community recognizes the alteration in match schedules. Few unequivocal “must‑sell” options exist this week, yet an Everton defender entering such a challenging sequence of games is undoubtedly among them. Secure the points, express gratitude, and reallocate the capital into a defensive unit promising greater potential.

Viktor Gyökeres (8.8m)

For those within the 12% ownership of Gyökeres, satisfaction likely stems from his recent tally of five goals in six appearances. Nevertheless, a few warning signs warrant current consideration. Firstly, Everton is the forthcoming opponent – a team that, notwithstanding their own difficulties, typically concedes few goals. Secondly, Arsenal has a blank fixture in Gameweek 31, and given a delicately balanced Champions League encounter against Bayer Leverkusen, it’s highly probable his playing time will be carefully controlled due to European commitments. Considering both the blank gameweek and the prospect of more closely contested matches, an early departure and a transfer to a forward enjoying both suitable fixtures and assured minutes leading into GW31 becomes a simpler decision.

Crystal Palace defender Daniel Munoz

Daniel Muñoz (5.9m)

Muñoz held the potential to be an outstanding differential pick, hence this situation is regrettable. A back ailment has rendered him questionable for the Leeds match in Gameweek 30, and although a possibility of his participation remains, the indications are not especially optimistic. Add to this the high probability of a blank in Gameweek 31, and one suddenly considers a defender who could be absent this week and is certainly out for the following. Consequently, he transforms into a straightforward sale. Depending on an ailing full‑back during this stage of the season is inadvisable. Neither the peril, nor the retention, nor assuredly the anxiety is justified.

Declan Rice (7.4m)

Rice has offered excellent value, and the home fixture against Everton in GW30 is truly favorable, particularly as Arsenal senses an advantage following City’s stumble against Forest. However, strategic timing occasionally outweighs emotional connection. Given Arsenal’s blank in Gameweek 31, transferring Declan Rice a week beforehand enables engagement in two gameweeks rather than a single one. Numerous midfielders possess the capacity for significant points and assured playing time across Gameweeks 30 and 31 – precisely the attributes required approaching Wildcard 32. Rice will undoubtedly continue to perform consistently, but if his sale finances a more impactful immediate transfer, it represents a highly logical concession.
