COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ally Sentnor netted a goal in the 55th minute, leading the United States to a 1-0 triumph over Canada on Wednesday during the SheBelieves Cup tournament.
Marking her seventh international goal, Sentnor capitalized on a corner kick delivered by Rose Lavelle. She gathered the ball after a bounce before driving it past two opposing defenders and Canadian goalkeeper Kailen Sheridan.
This represented the United States’ seventh consecutive clean sheet. The squad has not conceded a goal since their 3-1 victory against Portugal last October.
The United States led the SheBelieves standings with two victories, surpassing Canada and Colombia, both of whom possess a single win. Earlier on Wednesday at ScottsMiracle-Gro Stadium, Colombia triumphed over Argentina by a score of 1-0 in the preceding game.
Dating back to their initial encounter in 1986, the United States boasts a 55-4-9 record when facing Canada. Their most recent confrontation in July 2025 saw the U.S. secure a 3-0 win.
Canada’s most recent triumph in this rivalry occurred during the Tokyo Olympic Games. Jessie Fleming successfully executed a penalty kick in a 1-0 semifinal victory, a result that ultimately led Canada to clinch the gold medal.
U.S. coach Emma Hayes opted to include Trinity Rodman in the initial lineup, even though the player sustained a blow to her back late in Sunday’s 2-0 SheBelieves triumph against Argentina in Nashville. Rodman had contended with a persistent back ailment throughout the previous year.
Canada, having defeated Colombia 4-1 in the opening match of the competition, was missing Fleming due to an ailment.
The match remained without a goal following the initial half, despite the United States commanding close to 70% of ball possession.
Sentnor, a professional player for the Kansas City Current, ended the deadlock by scoring her third goal this year. In 2024, the 22-year-old received the honor of U.S. Soccer’s young player of the year.
This Saturday, Colombia is scheduled to face the United States in the competition’s final match in Harrison, New Jersey. In the preceding fixture, Canada will compete against Argentina.
This marks the eleventh yearly SheBelieves Cup, organized by the United States. Canada was participating for the fourth time in the competition.
