Thomas Chabot, a blueliner for the Ottawa Senators, is set to be sidelined for as long as two months due to a fractured arm, head coach Travis Green disclosed on Thursday.

Chabot sustained a fracture in his right arm following a cross-check delivered by New York Rangers captain J.T. Miller towards the conclusion of the first period on Monday night. Miller did not incur a penalty for the play. Green mentioned that Chabot underwent an operation on the injured arm and is expected to be absent for at least one month, though this period could extend for up to eight weeks.

“He will be sidelined for an extended period,” Green stated concisely.

The 29-year-old Chabot has accumulated seven tallies and 24 helpers across 55 contests this season, registering a plus-minus rating of +6. He ranks behind Jake Sanderson (24:49) in mean time on ice (22:34) for Ottawa. Sanderson, the Senators’ premier blueliner, has been inactive since March 7 due to an ailment affecting his upper body but will journey with the squad as he approaches his comeback.

Blueliner Lassi Thomson also suffered an injury during the matchup versus the Rangers, but Green stated he is being evaluated on a daily basis. The squad is further without blueliners Nick Jensen and Dennis Gilbert, who Green mentioned are anticipated to be unavailable for an additional two to three weeks. First-year defensemen Carter Yakemchuk and Jorian Donovan had their maiden NHL appearances in Ottawa’s 3-2 victory against the Detroit Red Wings on Tuesday.

The Senators are grappling with this injury crisis as they vie for a postseason berth in the Eastern Conference. Ahead of their home contest against Pittsburgh on Thursday night, the Senators occupied the concluding wild-card position with 85 points, marginally surpassing the New York Islanders and Red Wings.
