Real Madrid’s back, Dean Huijsen, has expressed regret for a discriminatory message posted on social media that has sparked indignation in East Asia.
On Saturday evening, Huijsen accessed Instagram and shared a movie critique of an Asian film. The item’s image displayed captures from the remarks area that included bigoted insults, such as “You could blindfold him with dental floss.”
This comment is linked to the disparaging characterization of the ocular appearance of individuals of Asian descent.
Huijsen has removed the post and offered a statement of regret stating: “I profoundly regret my actions towards my Chinese friends. Previously, I unwittingly shared an item containing objectionable material, which was entirely accidental, and I apologise for the unease inflicted.”
Asian fans dismayed by region-specific expression of regret
The apology was published via Weibo, a social network predominantly utilized in the People’s Republic of China, and not on the player’s or the club’s more internationally recognized profiles such as X, Facebook, or Instagram.
This decision has prompted additional criticism, especially given that Madrid has been highly outspoken in its endorsement for wide forward Vinicius Jr.
The Brazilian national team member charged Benfica’s Gianluca Prestianni with uttering a bigoted remark against him during last week’s Champions League game in Lisbon.
UEFA is probing the allegation. Prestianni refutes any culpability.
Huijsen is presently out of action due to a physical ailment and was absent from Saturday’s 2-1 loss at Osasuna – a defeat that saw Madrid cede the leading position in La Liga subsequent to Barcelona’s win over Levante yesterday.
The 20-year-old has featured in 18 matches for Madrid in La Liga during the current campaign – his debut season at the Santiago Bernabeu stadium after a transfer worth £50 million from Bournemouth last summer.
