PROVIDENCE, R.I. — A lethal attack that unfolded at a junior ice hockey game in Rhode Island last week led to a third fatality, a grandfather whose daughter and grandson had also been slain in the assault, officials reported on Wednesday.
Gerald Dorgan, who had been in a grave state, succumbed to his wounds, Pawtucket law enforcement confirmed.
Pawtucket Mayor Donald Grebien expressed his devastation that an additional individual had perished due to the gunfire.
“Our condolences and support extend to the victim’s family, companions, and all individuals touched by this sorrowful violent incident,” his statement read.
Mr. Dorgan’s offspring, Rhonda Dorgan, and grandchild, Aidan Dorgan, also lost their lives in the gunfire.
Law enforcement named the assailant as Robert Dorgan, 56, who perished from what appeared to be a self-inflicted bullet injury. Dorgan was also known as Roberta Esposito and Roberta Dorgano, officials reported. The attacker’s former spouse was Rhonda Dorgan, and his grown-up offspring was Aidan Dorgan.
Authorities indicated that the assailant was deliberately aiming at relatives.
The mother of Rhonda Dorgan, Linda Dorgan, and a companion of the family, Thomas Geruso, sustained injuries.
Police have lauded multiple individuals who stepped in and swiftly halted the assault. No fewer than three observers managed to restrain the assailant amidst the seating area while the spectators evacuated and scattered around them.
