North Carolina is set to appoint Michael Malone, a former long-serving NBA coach, as the university’s upcoming basketball head coach, as reported by ESPN’s Pete Thamel.
Malone formerly served as the Nuggets’ leading mentor for a decade, guiding Denver to their sole NBA championship in the club’s history in 2023. He was dismissed last April, subsequently joining ESPN as a commentator just over a month later.
Malone is slated to succeed Hubert Davis, whom UNC dismissed in the preceding month following the Tar Heels’ initial-round defeat to VCU in the NCAA tournament.
