The new PencilWash, much like the PencilVac (which Dyson labeled “world’s slimmest vacuum cleaner” when it debuted nine months ago), manages to integrate a battery, motor, and other electronics into its 1.5-inch-diameter handle. A key distinction, however, is that it swaps a dust bin for a water reservoir, positioned within its larger cleaning head and featuring a solitary floor-scrubbing roller.
Weighing 4.9 pounds when empty of water or a low-foaming cleaning fluid in its tank, the PencilWash is a little more substantial than the four-pound PencilVac. Nevertheless, it is also considerably more affordable. The PencilVac costs $600 for the model equipped with four rotating, cone-shaped brush heads, while the PencilWash, conversely, is priced at $349, a sum that encompasses a charging dock for its handle section.
Crafted particularly for tidying solid flooring such as tiles, laminates, and sealed timber, the PencilWash incorporates a pressurized water delivery mechanism. This system supplies clean liquid which its densely packed microfiber roller employs to scour surfaces, subsequently gathering the soiled water. Surfaces are not rendered entirely arid, though they are sufficiently dry for any residual dampness to rapidly dissipate. Furthermore, in contrast to Dyson’s bulkier floor cleaning devices, the PencilWash’s swiveling grip can recline almost entirely horizontally, enabling access beneath furnishings.
The operational duration of the battery is projected to be over 30 minutes after a complete replenishment, a timeframe that aligns with the PencilVac when it operates at its most economical power level.
