OpenAI appears to have achieved strong market adoption among India’s youth. On Friday, the firm disclosed that individuals aged 18 to 24 comprised almost half of the communications directed at ChatGPT within the nation, while those below 30 years old constituted 80% of the total.
The artificial intelligence research facility noted that Indian users primarily employ ChatGPT for occupational purposes, with 35% of all interactions pertaining to work-related duties, a figure higher than the 30% observed worldwide.
Specifically, the firm’s coding aid, Codex, is experiencing significant popularity: OpenAI reported that individuals in India utilize Codex at a rate three times higher than the international average, and its weekly engagement has quadrupled since the application became available on Mac devices two weeks prior. Furthermore, Indian users pose three times as many inquiries related to coding compared to the average.
This aligns with the discoveries made by Anthropic, which stated earlier this week that 45.2% of Claude’s assignments correspond to software-centric applications within India.
Beyond professional duties, OpenAI noted that 35% of communications to ChatGPT from Indian users sought advice, 20% involved inquiries regarding broad knowledge, and another 20% comprised solicitations for the AI bot to generate or assist with textual content.
With over 100 million weekly users, India stands as OpenAI’s second-biggest market, and the corporation has been diligently endeavoring to attract Indian customers to its artificial intelligence utilities and offerings. The firm provides an enrollment level costing less than $5 in the nation, and in the previous year, it even initiated marketing drives to encourage wider uptake.
“The uptake of AI is progressing more swiftly than our capacity to quantify it – presenting a hurdle for anyone striving to make informed choices. Signals represents our approach to presenting tangible evidence, ensuring that India’s discourse on AI is based on verifiable data, rather than speculation,” Ronnie Chatterji, OpenAI’s chief economist, declared in an official communication.
