Effective April 2nd, Sony is elevating the cost of its PlayStation 5 gaming systems across the globe. Through a statement issued on Friday, the company communicated that the standard PS5 model will now retail for $649.99, an increase from its previous price of $549.99. Concurrently, the PS5 Digital Edition’s price has been adjusted to $599.99, rather than $499.99, and the PlayStation 5 Pro is set to be priced at $899.99, up from $749.99.
Accompanying these revisions, the PlayStation Portal’s cost is also being boosted by Sony, shifting from $199.99 to $249.99.
This marks the second instance within a twelve-month period that Sony has elevated the cost of its PS5 consoles, having previously increased the price tags by $50 across all three variations last August. The company attributes this cost escalation to “ongoing strains in the global economic landscape.”
