The firm specializing in robotics, Sunday, has secured an additional investment round, placing its valuation beyond $1 billion, achieving unicorn standing, as revealed on Thursday.

Sunday declared it garnered $165 million, reaching a valuation of $1.15 billion, during its Series B funding, spearheaded by Coatue Management. Additional backers participating in this round comprise Tiger Global, Benchmark, and Bain Capital Ventures.

The enterprise exited its clandestine phase towards the close of the previous year and currently boasts a thousand individuals on its waiting roster, according to Bloomberg’s account.

Sunday, established by Tony Zhao and Cheng Chi, is endeavoring to create a domestic humanoid robot, dubbed Memo, designed to assist with chores such as doing laundry and tidying up surfaces.

For numerous decades, specialists have striven to construct such a robot — akin to Rosie from “The Jetsons” — yet have consistently fallen short, primarily due to insufficient training information to instruct these machines on securely handling items of varying mass, feel, and delicate nature (for instance, linens against delicate stemware). With the ongoing progression of AI innovations, a fresh array of automated solutions is emerging, with aspirations of reanimating the humanlike aide.
