After recently hinting at an innovative concept for a magnetic, reconfigurable smartphone, Tecno has now unveiled two additional phone designs, both centered on dynamic color-shifting exteriors: one integrating E Ink technology and the other showcasing neon elements.
The Pova Neon is what I find most captivating, which, according to the company, features authentic neon illumination, going beyond mere vibrant hues: it employs “ionized inert gas lighting technology” to produce a luminous glow.
Conversely, the AI EInk model integrates colored electronic ink onto its rear panel, enabling immediate alterations to the device’s hue. What’s potentially more striking is that users can calibrate the color via the integrated camera, thus allowing the phone’s aesthetic to harmonize with one’s attire through a mere photograph.
Like all conceptual designs, there’s no certainty that Tecno will ever launch a production device featuring either of these designs. The neon variant, in particular, seems improbable to reach commercial availability; however, I can envision an E Ink phone with dynamic color capabilities being introduced in the not-too-distant future.
