MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Memphis Grizzlies frontcourt player Brandon Clarke was apprehended Wednesday in Arkansas on allegations that encompass exceeding the speed limit and holding a controlled substance.
Physical ailments have restricted Clarke to merely a couple of matches this season, and Memphis has declared him unavailable for the remainder of the current campaign.
“I’m cognizant of the dispatch, but decline to remark,” Grizzlies coach Tuomas Iisalo stated prior to Memphis’ Wednesday night contest against New York.
The Cross County Sheriff’s Department registered Clarke as processed into custody Wednesday afternoon for unlawful overtaking, possession of a prohibited substance, evading, driving over the speed limit, and distributing a controlled substance. The department’s online portal also displayed an arrest photograph of Clarke.
The 6-foot-7 frontcourt player is presently in his seventh professional year since graduating from Gonzaga. Clarke has been absent from 73 matches, having initially been sidelined for 26 contests as a result of recuperation following an operation on his right knee, with the subsequent 46 stemming from a right calf muscle pull.
The Grizzlies disclosed on March 24 that Clarke was persisting with his recovery program, but latest assessments indicated he mandated additional mending prior to being approved for “strenuous on-court activities.” The squad stated Clarke is unavailable for the balance of the current campaign and is anticipated to return for the subsequent season.
