Sikorsky Selects Czech Company ČLS as First EU Black Hawk Parts Distribution Centre
Sikorsky, a Lockheed Martin company, has officially designated Česká letecká servisní (ČLS) as its inaugural authorised distribution centre for Black Hawk helicopter parts within the European Union. This strategic appointment aims to bolster support for the extensive fleet of over 150 Black Hawk helicopters currently operational across various EU member states.
The agreement is designed to significantly enhance the accessibility of critical replacement components for European Black Hawk operators. By establishing ČLS in the Czech Republic as a regional hub, Sikorsky-recommended parts can be pre-positioned closer to end-users. This approach is expected to reduce lead times, mitigate the complexities often associated with international supply chains, and ultimately improve the operational readiness and sustainment of the European Black Hawk fleet.
This new logistical arrangement will cater to multiple variants of the robust Black Hawk family, including the S-70, UH-60M, and UH-60A/L models. Lockheed Martin has highlighted that the increasing number of these versatile aircraft in European service has made faster access to spare parts and comprehensive sustainment support an imperative. The diverse roles undertaken by these helicopters, ranging from military transport and special operations to border security and emergency response, underscore the critical need for efficient maintenance and rapid parts delivery.
Rich Benton, Vice President and General Manager of Sikorsky, emphasised the company’s commitment to supporting its European customers. As quoted in a recent news update, Benton stated:“As the Hawk helicopter fleet grows in Europe, we are committed to supporting operator readiness for emergency response, security operations and more.”
He further elaborated on the strategic importance of the collaboration, adding:“By working alongside ČLS, we are strengthening our service footprint in the European Union and ensuring timely parts delivery for Black Hawk helicopters.”This move aligns with a broader industry trend towards localised support solutions to meet the evolving demands of a global client base, particularly for high-value defence and security assets.
ČLS brings a substantial track record to this new role, with extensive experience in providing avionics services, integrating special mission equipment, undertaking modernisation programmes, and delivering maintenance support for both rotary-wing and fixed-wing aircraft. Sikorsky confirmed that ČLS underwent a rigorous assessment process before securing authorisation to distribute components. This evaluation included comprehensive reviews of the Czech company’s quality management systems, operational processes, and adherence to stringent policy standards, ensuring it meets Sikorsky’s global benchmarks for authorised service providers.
Monika Kowalczykova, Chief Executive of ČLS, acknowledged the significance of the appointment for her company. The ČLS facility will now serve as a vital link in this integrated supply chain, supporting both existing fleets and future additions.
Sikorsky has also indicated that ČLS will collaborate with Sikorsky, PZL Mielec, and United Rotorcraft on the anticipated introduction of the S-70 FIREHAWK programme in the Czech Republic. Production activities for what will be Europe’s first FIREHAWK helicopters commenced at PZL Mielec in Poland earlier in 2026. These specialised aircraft are designed for critical aerial firefighting and emergency response missions, representing a significant enhancement of civil protection capabilities in the region.
The FIREHAWK is a highly modified S-70 Black Hawk, specifically adapted for civil protection roles. It combines the rugged and proven Black Hawk airframe with advanced firefighting equipment, including an external 1,000-gallon belly tank, and other mission-specific systems such as high-powered pumps and hover-fill capabilities. The Czech programme, therefore, expands the regional sustainment requirements beyond traditional defence users to include critical civil applications, necessitating a versatile and responsive parts distribution network capable of supporting diverse operational demands.
Sikorsky views the new Czech facility as an integral component of its broader global sustainment strategy.
