American Airlines is poised to recommence direct flights to Venezuela, as the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) granted the airline’s petition on Wednesday, marking it as the initial U.S. carrier to reinstate connections between the two nations since 2019.
The airline informed FOX Business that Envoy, an entirely owned subsidiary of American Airlines, will conduct these flights, offering uninterrupted routes from Miami to Caracas and Maracaibo, Venezuela.
This endorsement comes after President Donald Trump’s January instruction to re-establish commercial air travel over Venezuela. This had been closed after the Federal Aviation Administration had issued an urgent decree preventing U.S. civil aviation activities in the nation’s airspace. Transport Secretary Sean Duffy subsequently revoked the order, acting upon the president’s specific instruction.
Trump had requested the DOT to remove these constraints subsequent to a discussion with Delcy Rodríguez, Venezuela’s interim president.

Sources informed Reuters that the Transportation Security Administration was present in Caracas last week, examining airport security protocols, an essential prerequisite for the resumption of air travel.
The airline revealed its intention to re-establish connections with Venezuela in late January, merely weeks after the U.S. executed offensives in the country and apprehended authoritarian leader Nicolás Maduro.
“Our history of linking Venezuelans to the U.S. spans over 30 years, and we are prepared to rejuvenate that exceptional bond,” remarked Nat Pieper, American’s Chief Commercial Officer, in a statement released then. “By relaunching operations to Venezuela, American will extend to patrons the chance to reunite with loved ones and forge new commercial and trade activities with the United States.”
