An American man, aged 33, hailing from Leeds, has been accused of eleven terrorism-related offenses, as declared by Counter Terrorism Policing North East, following an inquiry they conducted.
Jason Symons is confronted with nine accusations of amassing intelligence that could be beneficial to an individual carrying out or preparing an act of terrorism, in accordance with Section 58 of the Terrorism Act 2000. Additionally, two charges allege his distribution of terroristic literature, contravening Section 2 of the Terrorism Act 2006.
Stemming from his apprehension on January 29, 2025, as part of an intelligence-guided counter-terrorism operation, these charges were brought forth. No additional particulars concerning the type of content involved have been divulged.
Symons was present at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on March 17 and is due to return to the Central Criminal Court on March 27.
According to Counter Terrorism Policing North East, this case is an integral element of their continuous efforts to probe and impede suspected terrorist activity.
