This Thursday, Google is launching a pair of fresh Gemini functionalities that may appeal to individuals contemplating a switch from their preferred AI chatbot but reluctant to “re-educate” a novel AI system. These new Gemini features, dubbed “Import Memory” and “Import Chat History,” facilitate users in rapidly transferring all data their current AI has accumulated about them, simply by employing a few predetermined prompts.

To utilize the “Import Memory” function, individuals simply copy a recommended prompt from Gemini, paste it into their old AI, and then transfer that AI’s generated response back into Gemini. This action is intended to quickly align Gemini with their personal preferences. As for the “Import Chat History” capability, it involves users requesting an export of all their conversational data, usually as a .zip file, from their previous AI and then uploading it to Gemini. This allows them to seamlessly continue their discussions in Gemini right from where they ended with their former AI.

In addition, Google is changing the designation of “past chats” within Gemini to “memory.” The deployment of both “Import Memory” and “Import Chat History” is targeting both free and paid consumer Gemini accounts; however, these might not be universally accessible on all platforms immediately. It is important to note that these recently introduced functionalities are not yet extended to users holding business, enterprise, or under-18 accounts.
