Burger King is refreshing its renowned Whopper for the initial time in almost a decade, as the company disclosed on Thursday.
Following input gathered from patrons, the quick-service restaurant announced it would now present the sandwich on a “more premium, better tasting bun,” and within a carton, rather than the existing paper wrapping.
“Over the past several years, our focus has been on bolstering our operations and modernizing our eateries to establish a more consistent foundation across the entire system,” stated Tom Curtis, president of Burger King U.S. and Canada. He added, “With that endeavor well advanced, we are now in a position to judiciously upgrade our fundamental menu. The Whopper is a legend, so our aim wasn’t to completely reimagine it. Instead, we enhanced it based on direct Guest comments.”

THIS RAPIDLY EXPANDING RESTAURANT CHAIN STATES ‘NO DISCOUNTS’ – AND IT’S PROVING SUCCESSFUL
The Whopper was conceived in 1957, following a return journey to Miami by Burger King co-founders James McLamore and David Edgerton.

McLamore observed an eatery with a sign promoting a substantial hamburger that had a line of customers outside, as documented in McLamore’s autobiography. He purchased the sandwich, which comprised a quarter-pound hamburger patty on a sizable five-inch bun accompanied by lettuce, tomatoes, mayonnaise, pickles, onions, and ketchup. Subsequently, he launched a “large adorned hamburger” in the firm’s Miami establishments.

“One shouldn’t simply discard the established strategy and commence anew,” Curtis communicated to CNN Business. He elaborated, “It resembles dressing our celebrated, classic burger in a tuxedo rather than casual attire.”
