Lockheed Martin has formalized an accord with the U.S. Department of Defense to substantially boost the manufacturing of its Precision Strike Missile (PrSM), aiming to quadruple its yield, as reported by the corporation.
This accord is founded upon a $4.94 billion deal secured from the U.S. Army in 2025. Its purpose is to hasten the provision of extended-range accurate strike capacity. Additionally, it stipulates conditions for a prospective agreement spanning up to seven years, contingent on legislative endorsement.
PrSM is under development as the successor to the Army Tactical Missile System, providing greater reach and enhanced adaptability, the firm stated. Its first documented deployment in operations occurred recently, with U.S. Central Command validating its utilization during Operation Epic Fury earlier this month.
“Lockheed Martin provides the sophisticated accurate strike capabilities the military personnel require, including the Precision Strike Missile (PrSM), which enhances deep-strike capacity,” remarked Jim Taiclet, the Chairman, President, and Chief Executive Officer for Lockheed Martin. “We are collaborating intimately with the Department of Defense and the U.S. Army to ramp up manufacturing to satisfy operational requirements.”
Lockheed Martin indicated it poured funds exceeding $7 billion over the past few years to enlarge its production capabilities for its key initiatives, with approximately $2 billion specifically targeting ordnance fabrication. The firm further noted that the fabrication of PrSM is sustained through specialized sites within the United States and a staff comprising over 400 individuals.
This accord constitutes a component of a broader drive to boost manufacturing capability for crucial armaments. Lockheed Martin also underscored comparable endeavors to augment the yield from systems like PAC-3 interceptors and THAAD. The corporation stated these actions aim to fortify supply chain robustness and address increasing tactical requirements.
